Guns ‘n’ Roses tribute band The Rocket Queens played their final gig in Bar Metro a bit ago, and the crowd was out in hordes. For those of you that don’t know, the Rocket Queens are actually Sofa King Cool in drag as I like to say. A group of well-seasoned and talented musicians, each band-member is already a veteran to the band-scene in the Midlands, and while Sofa King Cool still lives on, the Rocket Queens are no more.

Capture Notes:
For anyone who has tried to photograph in Bar Metro before, you know that it suffers from tight enclosed spaces. Great for getting close to the band, bad for anyone trying to shoot them. One advantage Bar Metro has is the gel-ed stage lights they’ve installed for creating more atmosphere which become quite useful when creating dynamic shots in a non-stage environment.
Most of these photos were shot on 28-70mm which gave the freedom of a varied focal range without needing to switch lenses during the gig. The space was too tight to utilise a focal length beyond 70mm anyway.
The ISO was bumped to around 800 mostly to make-up for the dark surroundings, although a few shots come though with motion blur, it was used to creative effect.
Shout it Out!
